Mental Health eLearning Program for Australian and New Zealand Leisure & Sport Sectors
Nationally, mental illness (MI) is the most common reason people visit a GP, and has been for approaching 3 years. COVID-19 has disproportionately affected the Arts and Recreation sector, with sport, leisure, fitness, and aquatics services all dramatically impacted through closures, job losses, salary reductions, concerns about the future, isolation and reduced contact and support from/with others. Resultantly, people connected with these sectors now experiencing substantial MI. No evidence-based, accessible, low-cost, and scalable training resource supporting professional development of people in the leisure and sport sectors toward improved mental health understanding and behaviours exists in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). This presentation will describe an eLearning program designed to support workers and volunteers in the leisure and sport sectors toward improved mental health for themselves, and others with whom they work, live and associate.
